The Crusade Against Fat – Why it was Totally Wrong

You’ve heard it before: fat is bad. It’s something that everyone likes to say but we’re going to raise an important question: how bad is it actually? If you’ve been keeping up with our blog to any extent then you already know that there are good fats, and bad fats, and just about everything in between. So where did this anti-fat movement come from, exactly? Well, we can actually trace it back to the 1970’s, believe it or not, and it was actually based on a highly flawed study by a man named Ancel Keys. He published a study regarding six different countries, and in these studies, he made the statement that higher saturated fat intake is a leading cause of heart disease.

Oddly enough, he performed research on 22 countries and left 16 out of those, he chose the six that met his criteria. Naturally, this is just one of the issues that have been raised against fat, but we’re not going to condemn every single organization that made a mistake in the 20th century. Instead, we’re going to discuss the reason fat is actually a good thing, and most importantly how our Wellington medical weight loss can design a program just for you.

Good Fat, Bad Fat, and Everything in Between

To get started here, we’ll say that there are three different macronutrient types which come in the following varieties:

  • Fat
  • Carbohydrates
  • Proteins

Carbs taste better than proteins, as you already know, and that often means you end up going on a high carb diet. In the 70’s, supermarkets (do you remember supermarkets) started stocking their shelves with ‘low fat’ items, and people ate it up, literally. The problem was that information wasn’t as prevalent back then. People relied on paper publications, and quite frankly, they believed what they were told because they didn’t have much another choice.

A 2010 study recently found that by replacing saturated fat with carbohydrates, you increase your insulin resistance, and therefore, you increase the risk of obesity. Ironically, you also increase your risk of heart disease, which is precisely what you were trying to avoid.

A Look at Different Types of Fats

Wellington medical weight loss

What many people fail to realize, is that there are in fact many different types of fats out there. When you think of ‘fat’, you imagine this evil entity that’s looking to increase the size of your thighs or bring out the spare tire, when, in fact, there are three different types of fats that you need to consider when you are setting up your perfect diet or a Wellington Medical weight loss program. Let’s explore the three types of fats, and then talk about the need for a good weight loss program.

Saturated Fat

This is often referred to as a ‘solid fat’, and you’ll find it in most animal foods. There are several foods in which it is more prominent, however.

Foods High in Solid/Saturated Fats

  • Milk
  • Cheese
  • Meat
  • Foods Low in Solid/Saturated Fats
  • Poultry
  • Fish

You will also find that tropical oils like palm oil, cocoa butter, and coconut butter have their own saturated fat. For a healthy diet, consider taking in 10% of your daily calories from saturated fats.

Trans Fat

What we have here is a fat that is changed by hydrogenation, which increases the shelf life. A harder fat is introduced into pie crusts and even crackers. Just remember that trans fat raises your cholesterol, so take it in moderation.

You can find trans fat in:

  • Chips
  • Crackers
  • Cookies
  • Margarine
  • Salad Dressings

This is a fat that has been changed by a process called hydrogenation. This process increases the shelf life of fat and makes the fat harder at room temperature. Harder fat makes crispier crackers and flakier pie crusts. Trans fat can raise your cholesterol, so eat as little trans fat as possible. You’ll find it in:

Unsaturated Fat

This is a liquid fat, at least at room temperature, and it is derived from fat oils. Unsaturated fat will help you to improve your cholesterol oils, so, with that being said, this should be a good chunk of your diet.

As you can see, there are several different types of fats, and it all comes down to moderation. For more help, check out our medical weight loss centers in Wellington. We will strive to get you on a plan and make sure that it is adjusted to your particular body type and metabolism.

Boca Raton Medical Weight Loss

Don’t Give up! Medical Weight Loss can Change your Life!

You look in the mirror every single day, and what you see isn’t what you want to see. You might have a few extra pounds, or maybe you are what people would consider obese. No matter which it is, it’s a problem that you need to fix, and as quickly as humanly possible. There are a few things that you will need to understand, starting out, the first of which is that there is no miracle cure. This, of course, is just one of the things that we are going to be discussing, and then we will go into what is known as medical weight loss. It’s time for you to start losing the healthy way, and in a way that is actually going to work.

Understanding Boca Raton Medical Weight Loss

The first thing you need to understand is that there is most definitely no miracle cure for what ails you. While obesity might be a plague on your life, you can’t expect to get rid of it overnight. There is a chance that you took several years to get into this condition, and it will take several years for you to return to the condition that you were in. That, however, doesn’t mean you cannot make small changes! If you really want to make progress, you will need to set milestones and make sure that you’re meeting all of them without procrastinating, but we’ll get to that shortly.

The second thing you need to know goes hand in hand with the fact that there is no miracle cure, no matter how badly you would like there to be. As you progress on your weight loss journey, there is a good chance that you will start encountering weight loss plans that promise to bring you the achievements you’ve always dreamed of, but the biggest thing you’ll need to watch out for, are fad diets. Fad diets are those that promise a result by employing extreme methods. Take the Atkins diet, for example. It lowers your carbs, which can cause rapid weight loss, but depending on your current state, it might take a serious toll on your body.

No matter who you are, you have unique aspects to your body that you will need to respect. Everyone is different, and in order to lose weight, everyone will need to go through a different process. In this case, we’re going to be talking about medical weight loss, and how it can change your life.

It is extremely important to address these underlying issues and try to resolve them. If the cause of your weight gain is triggered by past physical or mental trauma, these issues must be addressed and acknowledged for a person to get healthy and stay healthy. It is possible to lose weight and gain it back, relapses are a very real issue that we work to prevent. Addressing Common Weight Loss

Protein And Weight Loss

Keeping protein in your diet as you try to lose weight is very popular right now. Weight loss shakes and other supplements always help, but protein is a staple that you want to keep around in your food. If you’re at the beginning of your diet journey, here’s how protein can actually help you lose weight.

Protein Satisfies For Longer

When you’re just starting out on your diet, it can feel as though you’re effectively starving yourself. This is why so many experts, including us, recommend that you eat more protein. This is because it slows digestion, helping you feel fuller for longer. Especially when you’re just starting out, you can save an awful lot of calories if you aim to eat more protein.

Curb The High And Lows Of Carbs

Carbohydrates are essential in your diet, but on their own, they can play havoc with your sugar levels. When you reach a sugar low after a high, you’ll end up making decisions you’ll regret later. After all, that donut never looked more tempting than when you’re dealing with low blood sugar. Pair those carb-rich foods with protein, to slow down the absorption of the sugar into your blood stream. It’ll help you ward off cravings and stick to your diet.

Protein Needs More Energy

Every food needs energy in order to be digested and used by the body as fuel. Protein is a good diet food as it requires more energy to be broken down. That means you’ll be using more calories in order to digest that food, and again, you’ll feel fuller for longer.

Save Your Muscles And Burn Fat

Your body needs nutrients coming in order to start burning fat properly. The problem with diets is that you’ll lose weight both from fat and muscle loss. Protein is essential, as it helps fuel this process as well as keep your muscles lean and ready to help you exercise the weight off.

Increase Muscle Repair And Growth

weight loss program Boca RatonSpeaking of exercise, it’s vital to any good diet regime, but it can take a lot out of your muscles. Protein in your diet is needed to keep them on top form. Make sure you eat a good amount any day you undertake any intense training. The protein will help your muscles repair and grow, ready for the next session.

The Boca Raton Medical Weight Loss Program

Protein on its own won’t help you lose weight. That’s why we recommend pairing it with our medically devised weight loss program Boca Raton.

These programs take your individual needs into account. You’ll meet with a nutritionist and doctor, and they’ll take into account your goals and medical history. They’ll then create a unique weight loss program, just for you.

This program will include a specially created diet, an exercise plan, and lipotropic injections to help you get the weight off, and keep it off. You’ll meet with doctors every week, to track your progress and see just how you’re getting on.

One of the hardest parts of dieting is going it alone. Diet books, apps and blogs don’t know anything about you and your life. Using our weight loss program means that you have a team who are all on your side, ready to help you reach your goal weight and feel better about yourself.

Our plans are highly successful, as they’re created with the individual in mind. You’ll never have to struggle with your weight again, as we’ll think about how you need to lose weight, and how we’ll help you keep it off.

If you’re convinced, book and appointment and come and speak with us. We can help you see what we can do, and how our program can work for you where others have failed. You’ll never have to go it alone again. Get in touch, and you’ll be put on the path to a happier, healthier, more confident you.

Addressing Common Weight Loss

Five Tips for Stopping Weight Gain

Weight gain is a serious problem in the United States as obesity runs rampant, but there are in fact ways that you can avoid putting on more weight than you have to. As they say, the first step to a cure is prevention, and with that being the case, as a Boca Raton medical weight loss clinic, we have a bit of advice for you that will help you to reach the weight loss goal that you desire in 2017.

Watch your Eating Habits

You’ve heard this before, and you’re going to hear it many times in the future: you need to pay close attention to what you are eating! To start, take stock of your daily eating habits. Watch the sodium, watch the calories, and watch the fat. If you really want to be efficient, then it’s time for you to start a journal. At the beginning of each month, record your weight, and subsequently record everything you eat, including the nutritional value. As you record these things, pay close attention to any changes in your weight, and if you see an increase, you can easily isolate the habit that is contributing to it.

In keeping your records, track what your calories and use the measurements provided on processed food packaging. If you’re eating at restaurants, you can use their provided nutrition guide (most restaurants have one). One thing to remember, however, is that some restaurants do not provide nutritional content information, making it difficult to determine what you are consuming. If you want to adjust your eating habits, you may need to consider eating only foods of which you can be sure of the nutritional content.

Eat from all the Food Groups

There is a common misconception floating around that ‘food is food’, or so to speak. Yes, food is food but have you ever considered the five major food groups? They all need to be on your plate if you’re going to have a healthy body, and these five groups include:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Whole Grains
  • Low-Fat Dairy
  • Lean Proteins

If you want to improve your diet, do make sure you’re including foods from all of these groups!

Go lean

Weight Gain

Protein is an important part of your diet, and with that being the case, you should try sticking to the leaner ones. These are better for your health, and they even serve to keep you full for longer. In other words, lean proteins serve as an outstanding appetite s suppressant. Lean proteins include:

  • Beans
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Poultry
  • Fish

If you want to take it up a notch, try replacing that beef at dinner with baked salmon and grilled vegetables.

Cut the Sugar

We all love sugar, there are no exceptions, but you’re going to need to cut back on it if you wish to quell the unwanted weight gain. You do need sugar, but many people take in too much of it. Did you know that many of the products you buy at the store have extra sugar? Bread, and canned pasta sauce are two of the most common culprits – remember that. If you want to cut down, read the labels and the recommended serving sizes before you consume processed foods.

Complex Carbohydrates are Key

Complex carbs can fill you up and act as an appetite suppressant, some of the ones you should be looking for on your next shopping trip might include:

  • Whole Grain Bread
  • Whole Wheat Pasta
  • Brown Rice

Something important to note is that white rice, pasta, and bread often lack nutrients, which leads to cravings later on – completely defeating the purpose of any diet you might be on.

Finally, make sure that you’re practicing self-discipline. Remember, you rule your body, not the other way around. Pass up that donut, make baked chicken instead of ordering a pizza, buy healthy snacks instead of going for that box of fried chicken at the deli. It’s going to take some work, but you can absolutely do it, and you can get yourself to a healthier state.

Boca Raton Medical Weight Loss vs. Typical Fad Diets

Boca Raton Medical Weight Loss

What is a fad diet? Every day the women’s magazines at the checkout lines shout “read me; I have the secret to losing weight without restricting your food plans or working out.” And we fall for it every day. Why? We all want to lose weight, but we don’t want to cut out the foods we adore, like pizza and ice cream, and we don’t like to work out or even just move more, because who has the time? Not us; those frozen dinners aren’t going to buy themselves and they don’t cook themselves either.

Every year in January, gym memberships gain a fresh influx of new members – it’s the New Resolution. If your club is small enough, you know who is new and who is not; this usually is time to predict who will stay and who will not. It sounds brutal but is it’s a fact of life. Maybe it’s time to get serious and find a medical weight loss center Boca Raton.

Shed for the New Year

A fad diet can be potentially dangerous, because it is geared toward quickly dropping pounds be it water, muscle, etc. I remember when the drug Fen-Phen came out and was lauded as a miracle drug for obesity patients, and at first, it did cause rapid weight loss until the FDA took it off the market for the life-threatening issue of leaking heart valves. I remember a co-worker was who had been prescribed this drug and had lost 50 pounds said, in my hearing, is she did not care what the risks were she still would continue on the meds as long as she could.

Any program that reduces calories along with a program of exercise will work; however, the problem is when you return to your old habits; your weight will come with it. It is not the matter of what we eat. You need to change your thinking to really change your life. Many people turn to random OTC vitamin supplements and think vitamin pills is all you need, to supply your body, when in fact, your natural diet should supply most of the minerals and vitamins you need and any supplement you take should be under the advice of your doctor. Some vitamins can cause your body to overload based on what you are you are already taking.

Boca Raton Medical weight loss program

How We Are Different

Boca Raton Medical weight loss program offers many different ways to help you get fit and keep the weight off because the programs are not fad diets; they are a life change system.VIP Medical  Weight Loss has many tools to help you succeed, including pharmaceutical grade appétit suppressants that work for a hand-in-hand with your eating plan. Your program will include nutrition and physical programs to help you get where you want to be in life while under the care of a physician, and, for safety clients will meet with a staff physician weekly.

We monitor you from your first day all the way through the day you strut out of the front door a new improved you. A Boca Raton Medical Weight loss Doctor will prescribe a regimen of injections and supplements and will also assist you in achieving and maintaining your weight loss and long-term goals. You will ultimately “graduate” and go out into the wide world armed with the knowledge of all you learned about how to live a confident life where you make smart choices; however, anytime you feel the need to pick up some of the proprietary appétit control injections and/or the balanced supplements to get back on track, we got your back!

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Another way we are different is what this says, no two people are completely the same, including identical twins. So why should you settle for a cookie cutter program, which does great things for patients no doubt about it, but there are those who have failed on other plans and decide they need a program just for them, based on his or her lifestyle. The first week is designed to boost your weight loss journey by jumpstarting your loss with five to 7 pound gone in the first week. You see right away what you can expect to keep you motivated; this follows with a two to a three-pound loss per week in the weeks following.

Beware!

As fast as the FDA can ban dangerous drugs, manufacturers, looking to get rich quick by preying on those who buy into the truth , that the bodies in the photos are not even real and are photoshopped to look perfect.

We already know how life-threatening Fen-Phen can be and yet some were eagerly taking it right up until the FDA snatched it from their hands regardless of the danger – dying to be thin.  Medical Weight Loss programs use only safe FDA approved medical supplements and you are examined carefully week to week so your progress is constantly being checking and revised as needed so it’s extremely safe. Help is just a click or phone call way.

Can Processed Food Harm your Medical Weight Loss Progress

When you’re trying to get in shape and lose weight, your diet will be critically important. Not only do you need to be mindful of the total calories that you consume, but you will also need to ensure that the food you’re eating is nutritious, and free from high levels of sodium, sugar, and fat.

Medical weight loss clinics in Wellington, FL, will tell you that processed foods are amongst the worst that you can eat. Why is this, and could consuming too much processed food stop your medical weight loss plan from working?

Let’s find out…

Most Experts Agree that Engineered Food Leads to Weight Gain

When losing weight is your goal, the worst thing that you can do is consume engineered food. Although this term is rarely used, it’s probably the best way to describe any kind of processed food. Engineered foods are designed to be highly palatable and inexpensive. Additives like sodium, sugar, or monosodium glutamate are used in these processed foods to make them taste good, and the results can be frighteningly good.

Think about your favorite fast food restaurant, or even your favorite snack bar, and you will probably be thinking of an engineered and heavily processed food. High in calories with little nutritious content (such as fiber, vitamins, minerals, and protein), processed foods should be eliminated from your diet when you’re following a structured Wellington medical weight loss plan.

While most people ‘just know’ that processed food is not healthful, there have actually been some controlled studies performed, scientifically providing that processed and engineered food can be bad for weight loss, and will even promote weight gain.

A study carried out a Pomona College, California (ranked the 7th best college in the U.S.), compared whole and processed foods on a calorie for calorie basis. One study group ate highly processed food options, such as bread made from white flour, processed cheese products, and processed meats, while a second group consumed whole grains, natural dairy, and unprocessed meat. The aim of the study was to see which group would burn more calories during digestion, and it was found (unsurprisingly) that the group eating unprocessed food was burning the most. This is due to the fact that whole foods require the metabolism to work harder to break down and absorb valuable nutrients. Processed food takes less time to absorb, and therefore doesn’t require the same energy.

Although the study only looks at one small part of why processed foods aren’t a good choice, it’s still a great reason to avoid them when you’re on your Wellington medical weight loss plan.

Other Reasons to Avoid Processed Food

Medical Weight Loss ProgressProcessed isn’t just bad because it can promote weight gain and interfere with weight loss. Another reason you should avoid processed and junk food is because the high levels of sugar, sodium, fat, and empty calories, can all contribute to serious disease.

Heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome are just some of the conditions that have been linked to regular consumption of processed food. A single serving of processed meat can contain all of your sodium intake for the day, so if you’re eating processed food or high sodium snacks at different times of the day, then you’re going to regularly exceed recommend guidelines.

If you keep consuming too much salt, you’ll put your kidneys under stress, leading to kidney disease, and increased blood pressure could lead to a heart attack or stroke. When you’re thinking about grabbing a takeout burger, or even a seemingly ‘healthy’ sandwich that’s made with processed meat and cheese, you should probably think again, and instead stick to the food plan recommended by your Wellington medical weight loss clinic.

Medical Weight Loss – Good vs. Bad Cholesterol

There’s a significant amount of misunderstanding when it comes to cholesterol. Most people would say that high levels of cholesterol are bad for you, while there are others that would argue that some cholesterol can benefit the body, and is actually essential. In some ways, both sides to this argument are right, but only when you take the time to understand the difference between good and bad cholesterol. If you’re planning to begin a Boca Raton medical weight loss program, then knowing the differences could have a significant impact on how you look at your current health, and how you plan your diet as you begin your weight loss journey.

Defining Cholesterol

Before you even begin Boca Raton medical weight loss, you’ll take part in a consultation process, where various tests will be taken. One of these tests will be a cholesterol test. High cholesterol is often a warning sign, and it can mean that you need to make significant changes to your diet and lifestyle, which will help you to lose weight and avoid future complications including inflammation, blood clots, heart disease, and stroke.

Cholesterol itself is a wax-like substance that is produced naturally in the body, and It is also contained in some foods. With healthy levels of cholesterol, body functions perform better, and you will enjoy balanced health.

What Leads to High Levels of Bad Cholesterol?

If you’ve been told that you have problematic high cholesterol, then this means that you have excess levels of LDL (low density lipoprotein). This is also what is known as ‘bad’ cholesterol. If you have a poor diet that is rich in dairy, lard and animal fat, saturated fat, and processed animal products, then there’s a chance that your test will reveal high levels of bad cholesterol when you begin your medical weight loss program. However, genes, a sedentary lifestyle, being overweight, and even your ethnicity can have an influence on your risk of having high cholesterol levels.

Why is Good Cholesterol Different?

There’s another side of cholesterol that is not as widely understood, and that is HDL (high density lipoprotein). HDL works within the body to regulate the amount of LDL. If you have too much bad cholesterol that could lead to damage, then HDL, the ‘good’ cholesterol, will pick it up in your blood stream and take it to your liver for reprocessing.

This means that optimal levels of HDL are actually beneficial to your body, but not having enough could increase your risk of developing medical problems related to high levels of bad cholesterol. Weight loss plans in Boca Raton will help you to understand both sides of cholesterol in further detail, and you’ll also learn about different ways that can help to balance your cholesterol levels naturally, much of which can be achieved by exercising and changing your diet.

How Diet Can Raise Levels of Good Cholesterol

Medical Weight LossSimply losing weight can do wonders for your body’s ability to regulate levels of bad cholesterol, however, you can give your body even more of a boost by increasing your levels of good cholesterol by making healthy food choices. While nutrition in medical weight loss is highly specific to the individual, there are some safe changes that you can make to your diet, all of which can help to boost your good cholesterol levels. Remember, before you make any significant changes to your diet, you should always consult with your medical professional at VIP Medical Weight Loss.

These foods high in HDL are not just common, but they can also be delicious and they’ll add some variation to your regular diet.

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – This is the perfect oil for salads and cooking at low temperatures. Not only does this oil increase levels of HDL, but it will also help to reduce inflammation caused by high levels of LDL.
  • Whole Grain Foods – Natural whole grains can help to lower bad cholesterol in your diet, because they are high in insoluble and soluble fiber.
  • High Fiber Fruits – Just like whole grain foods, fruits that are high in fiber can absorb bad cholesterol from your system, while boosting levels of good HDL cholesterol.
  • Omega 3 Rich Fish – Omega 3 is used as an anti-inflammatory, there is evidence to suggest it improves brain function, and most importantly, it’s an excellent source of HDL. Fatty fish are better, including tuna, salmon, and sardines. Opt for fresh fish, or canned varieties that contain lower amounts of sodium.
